Charles William Bartley, Jr.
Charles William Bartley, Jr., 88, of Cedar Grove, passed away May 31, 2013, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. A Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre, Charles served and fought in the major battles of Tarawa, the Marshall Islands, the Marianas Islands, New Guinea, Phillippines and Iwo Jima. He was also a retired conductor for the New York Central, Penn Central, and Conrail Railroad Companies serving 43 years and a member of the Chelyan Lodge #158 AF&AM.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Marie Downey Bartley; and parents, Charles William Bartley, Sr. and Florence Marie Walker Bartley.
Surviving are his sons and daughter-in-law, Charles W. "Chuck" III and Diane Bartley and Dwayne Bartley, all of Charleston; daughters and son-in-law, Peggy Alexander of Charleston, Beverly Bennett and Betty and Jeff Carver, all of Belle; grandchildren, Anthony "Ty" and Nicholas "Nick" Bartley, Erin and Paige Carver, Whit Alexander and Leilani "Loni" Bennett, great-grandchild, Colbi Campbell; and great-great-
grandson, Ian Campbell.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, Belle, with his nephew, Ralph Stephens officiating.
Burial with Masonic and Military graveside rites will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the funeral home. |
