Robert K. McCarthy Sr., age 88, of Dennis, where he retired in the year 2000 and formerly of Medfield, died peacefully at his home on November 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Boston he was the son of the late Robert and Helen (Rouzaut) McCarthy. He was educated through the West Roxbury school system. Bob served in the Navy as a Ship's Cook, First Class during WWII. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific medal with six stars, African European Middle Eastern medal with one star and the Philippine Liberation medal with one star.

After the war, Bob married Ruth (Rizza) McCarthy and moved to Medfield where they raised their two children. He started his career as a cook for the family owned Colonial Restaurant in Medfield. He then joined the Medfield Police department serving as a Patrolman for eleven years before moving to the Westwood Police Department for the next nine years, retiring in 1978. Bob's passion was making food and making people happy. He was the owner of “Bob's Buffet”, a catering company and McCarthy Limousine , a livery company, for ten years. He was a member and past president of the Medfield Lions, Medfield American Legion, Medway Amvets and Knights of Columbus. 

Bob leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth. He was the loving father of Robert K. McCarthy and his wife, Lisa (Latronica) of Texas, Ruthanne McCarthy Bennett of W. Dennis and the late Timothy P. McCarthy. He was the cherished grandfather of Michele McCarthy Folwer and her husband, Jennings and Beary Latronica McCarthy. Dear brother of Virginia Mezzanotte, Mary F. Willey, Maureen Kurtowitz and the late Joseph J. McCarthy, Barbara Keating, Catherine Gray and Helen Shackley. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. 

Mac always had a big smile on his face, a story for everyone and will be greatly missed. 

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Robert's Life was held on Thursday, December 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Edward the Confessor Church, Medfield. Interment with Military Honors followed at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield. Visiting hours were held at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street, Medfield, Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
