Obituary of
Emery Joseph Parker
Emery J. Parker, age 92, of Menasha, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017. He was born on May 19, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Knutson) Parker. Emery married Dolores Mary Dombroski on November 25, 1948, and she preceded him in death in September of 2001, after 52 years of marriage.
For many years, Emery and Dolores wintered in Arizona, Palm Springs, and ended up in Port Charlotte,Florida. They were members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Menasha. Emery was a very proud veteran. He was in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1946. After high school he entered the Navy and became a radio operator. He was later transferred into the Marine Corps due to a shortage of radiomen. He participated in the invasion of Guadalcanal and Guam. He then returned to the Navy and served aboard the USS Harry Lee and was also involved in the invasions of Luzon and Iwo Jima. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club and of the Moose Lodge. Emery had a passion for music. He excelled in playing the violin and guitar. He was a member of several musical groups through the years, including the "Appalachian Strings", "Y-Nots" and the "Valley Ramblers", playing with his brothers at many wedding dances. Golf was another fond pastime of Emery's, he even scored a hole in one at his favorite course, Bridgewood, on the day he retired. Emery enjoyed flying his remote control airplane, volunteering at Theda Clark, singing karaoke, and a good old fashioned or manhattan, with TWO cherries! He was employed at AT&T for 38 years, and enjoyed over 35 wonderful years of retirement, of which he spent a lot of time with family, friends and traveling.
Emery is survived by his two children: Pamela (Robert Czajkowski) Parker and Gregory Parker; grandchildren: Elizabeth and Bradley; great grandchildren: Cameryn and Lambeau Emery; sister-in-law, Helen (James) Drall; a Goddaughter, Stephanie Drall; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Emery was preceded in death by his siblings La Vohn, David and Shirley.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 29, 2017, at St. Thomas Church, 226 Washington Street, Menasha. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. For online condolences, please visit www.kesslerfh.com .
